Description VRTP40
VRTP40 Rotary Unit for Heavy-Duty Gripping Systems
This model rotates the end-effector around its axis by 90° or 180° and is used in robotic cells, automated production lines, assembly stations, part feeding systems, and machine tool loading and unloading. The rotary unit allows you to change the workpiece orientation without requiring an additional robot axis or extra mechanism—the part can be flipped, transferred to the next position, fed into a machine tool in a different orientation, or placed into a fixture after gripping.
What to Consider When Selecting the VRTP40
A rotary unit should not be selected based solely on its nominal torque. For stable operation, you must consider the total mass of the gripper, fingers, and workpiece, the center of gravity position, overhang length, moment of inertia, required rotation speed, and cycle frequency. The further the gripper assembly's center of gravity is from the axis of rotation, the higher the load on the rotary mechanism and the buffer device. When working with long fingers, heavy tooling, or parts with an offset center of gravity, an engineering load verification based on the drawing or 3D model is required.
The VRTP40 is one of the larger models in the VRTP series. With a cylinder bore of 40 mm and a torque of 4.02×P N·m, this unit is designed for heavier gripping systems than the VRTP25 (0.98×P N·m) and VRTP32 (1.93×P N·m). A maximum kinetic energy of 12 J allows it to handle large workpieces and tooling with high moments of inertia. The unit is available in two versions—with a 90° and 180° rotation angle—allowing you to choose the exact configuration for your specific part reorientation task.
Sensors and Rotary Unit Configuration
Two magnetic inductive sensors are used to monitor the positions of the VRTP40 rotary unit. They transmit signals to the control system upon reaching the end positions, monitor the equipment's operational sequence, and reduce the risk of errors during the automatic cycle.
Assembling the complete unit may require:
- A pneumatic gripper matched to the part type and weight;
- Custom fingers designed for the workpiece geometry;
- Position monitoring sensors;
- Pneumatic system components;
- A mounting plate or adapter.
Application Areas of the VRTP40 Rotary Unit
The VRTP40 pneumatic rotary unit belongs to the VRTP series of universal pneumatically driven rotary devices. The series is designed to mount a single gripper and provides 90° or 180° rotation around the longitudinal axis. Units in this series are used with industrial robots, manipulators, gantry systems, and automated assembly lines where part reorientation is required after gripping.
Typical operations include:
- Flipping the workpiece for reverse-side machining;
- Feeding the part into the machine spindle in the required orientation;
- Transferring the product between conveyor workstations;
- Placing the part into a fixture after gripping;
- Changing part orientation during assembly.
Documentation and Downloads
Catalogs, selection guides, and STEP-format 3D models for CAD integration are available for the VRTP40. This documentation helps verify overall dimensions, align mounting interfaces, and select a compatible pneumatic gripper.
